Vision

  • The foundation’s goal is to celebrate Michigan’s legacy from the Native Americans, who originally inhabited the state, to today’s citizens; may they never be forgotten.

  • The main building will commemorate the 73 men missing in action in Vietnam and the 467 men and women who have given their lives as law enforcement officers in the State of Michigan. There will be displays of each of these individuals allowing visitors to the facility see a glimpse of the lives they gave up to benefit others. They were sons, daughters, fathers and mothers. They were brothers, sisters, neighbors and co-workers.

Imagine … allowing 73 young men to remain individuals instead of numbers. Those who headed off to Vietnam were an average age of 19 when they set foot on foreign soil. Their families remember them, so will we.

Over 467 Michigan law enforcement officers left home one day and didn’t return, losing their lives in the line of duty to preserve and protect our freedom. Their families remember them; so will we.

  • Additional wings will be used to educate the public of Michigan’s involvement in the various wars or conflicts. This wing will be a historical museum including facts and memorabilia from Michigan’s military units serving in the Civil War, both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as other conflicts and wars from the past to the present.

  • A second wing will provide a conference room to be used for lectures, primary and secondary education, as well as college and university courses.

  • The walking trail will mark 83 points of interest for each of the counties in Michigan. These points can include a small memorial, plaque, or monument honoring the men and women from each county or the county’s involvement in each war or conflict. A simple, log chapel will be available for visitors, and a Chaplain will also be on site.

  • The MH&RF grounds will be available for additional memorials or monuments, including but not exclusively, to various law enforcement or veterans groups, and including fire departments.

  • The MH&RF is hoping to acquire one of the three Vietnam Memorial Moving Walls or a Michigan Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall.
